Kimchi Salad

Kimchi Salad !!! and this was what I did with the kimchi I made , besides using them for fried rice.  Kimchi is a wonderful condiment for asian meals , expecially this is a must have with the Koreans. Of course they are many who do like the aroma of this preserverd Napa cabbage but I am glad that Piggy Jo and myself heart Kimchi especially homemade ones.  It is much cheaper to make your own then buying them off the shelf.  This is one thing I have to teach Jo how to make them since she loves kimchi.  With this kimchi you can whip out many dishes with it and I tell you this is one appetizing kimchi salad that I love. It goes well with fried chicken of any kind :)  Read on to if you love kimchi, if not just skip this post :p

Baked Tilapia

I am not really fond of tilapia but at times I do cook them , for WB loves them baked.  I will buy the tilapia still swimming around the fishmonger's big tub . They are pond reared, anyway I like them fresh then frozen type since I have the choice to get them still swimming. I pick one out and ask the fishmonger to clean them and fillet them for me .  For Ipohans' information, I bought them from Canning Garden wet market :) This medium size tilapia costs me RM10.90 which is considered cheap compared to salmon , this is very cheap :p

Crispy Egg Bits Bittergourd

After all the good food we had during the Easter party...it is now time to eat something simple.  We had a scrumptious farewell dinner at Kok Tai Restaurant last  Friday and thereafter had a church Easter luncheon on Sunday after service.  I had a good time eating what I am not supposed to eat but who cares...eat first and sweat out later :p  , so for our sunday dinner we had something light. These bittergourd slices stir fried with eggs and lots of chopped garlic and chillies came to the rescue.

Kimchi Fried Rice With Jalapeno

You must be wondering what I do with the Kimchi that I made some weeks ago . Well ,besides taking it as a side condiment, I used some for making kimchi fried rice for our dinner.  I have been very busy with work lately...many on-going projects and sometimes I wish I could just walk out and call it quit !  Life has to go on and after a hectic day, come home and eat simple that means cook simple...one dish washing kind of meal :p  Well, this is what I cooked with the kimchi....simply fry rice with it and lots of spring onions/scallions....added some crab filaments and throw in some jalapeno for something hot and spicy !  This Kimchi sure comes in handy :)

Corn Carrot And Tofu Soup

Chinese must have soup for their meals but sometimes I am  too lazy to cook for the two of us but at times I will too diligent and will take the trouble to cook a more time consuming soup for us. This soup is delicious...natural sweetness from the corn, carrot and the wolfberries and of course chicken broth that took 1 hour of slow simmering.  All you have to do is to add in the fresh sweet corn , carrots, wolfberries and the crab filament and tofu.  This combination will give you the most satisfying soup ever.

Fried Fish With Savoury Plum Sauce

I have been busy the last few days thus the lack of updating of posts here.  Work saps away my energy and came back too tired to think or cook anything nice.  Kept to simple cooking.  Pan fried fish and prepare a simple savoury sauce to go with it .  Wild Boar is not much of a fish eater but slowly trying to make him take more fish than meat :)  I do not know the actual name for this fish but I think it belongs to the red fish family.  But the texture is smooth and sweet.  The sauce is simply delicious...bursting with flavor of the east and is a great sauce for the fried fish.

Salted Egg Yolk Seafood Tofu

I was too exhausted lately to think how to cook these store bought seafood tofu  and anyway I am running out of idea how to cook tofu  :p  These tofu  pieces are made with seafood paste. The texture is neither soft nor hard..it is a in between texture of firm tofu and fish paste but the  flavor of this ready made seafood tofu is great.  First time buying this tofu and I  cooked it the same way I cooked Salted Egg Yolk Shrimps and it turned out really nice.  Flavorful and aromatic...mmmmm delicious no doubt !  Anyway, anything cooked with salted egg yolk would be nice :)  even these tofu turned out delish !

Taro Fish Soup

Taro or Yam is of one of  my favorite root veggie and I cook this very often in various style . Some of you may not have tried this Taro Fish Soup but I can tell you that it is super duper delicious...natural sweetness and with the leek and spring onions and coriander leaves added...I would say this taro fish soup is ideal as a soup or a soup base for noodles or vermicelli.  I am sure many would love this sweet scented soup and it is protein rich , good for the young especially :)   Many of you would think this " what ?? Taro Fish Soup using fish stock ? "  Well let me share with you ...it won't be fishy scented  if you know how to do it :)  This is my mom's favorite soup and I am so blessed, each time she cooked this , I was the busy body standing and watching her do it....a glutton even at a young age . And I asked her  this " when can we eat this ?  "  ..........

Curly Endives Salad With Balsamic Dressing

After the sinful indulgent of venison stew, it was time to eat more veggies and since I had made some crustless quiche it would nice to make a salad to go with it.  I had this fix in just a few minutes...this home chef is a fast worker no doubt about it :p  Put  all the curly endives and  cut strawberries into a salad bowl. Tossed in the balsamic dressing, Garnish with grated cheddar cheese and coarsely chopped toasted hazelnuts and the salad is ready for serving.  Great salad to serve with my Crustless Salmon & Spinach Quiche :)

Venison Stew With A Twist

I have 1/2 kg of venison in the freezer and not knowing what to do with it, I asked the Wild Boar how he would like it cooked. He is the meat eater, of course I will have to consult him or else I have to eat all the venison myself :p  The 1/2 kg comprises of ribs and other cuts so not much choice, he told me to stew it with dried italian herbs and requested for more potatoes and carrots. He is the conductor and I am the musician :p   Who cares as long as the  piece  stew turns out great * wink

Noodles In Kimchi Soup

After the homemade kimchi were ready for consuming, I knew I had to make this for my dinner.  I told WB that I am making kimchi soup and I will have noodles instead of rice.  My homemade kimchi turned out great and thus the soup was wonderful with tofu and crabstick added to it. I made it soup texture thicker than usual ..mmmm it was yummy.  And it was pungent enough to give you the oomph and after finishing the whole bowl of noodles plus the soup...my ears were tingling and nose was...OMG it was like having a bad cold :p but whatever , I slurped down the last drop of soup LOL!
