Birthday Celebration @ Delicious , Mid Valley Mall,KL

' Delicious'  has been around for some time now but this is my first time there. We celebrated Jo's birthday there. She chose this place because she loves their desserts and their western food are quite delicious  ( it is not called Delicious for nothing )  I would have love to try out all their desserts - quite a wide range of cakes but have to control my sugar intake. I am not a diabetic but have to be careful at my age...hehehe ooops I forgot I am only ' 25'  ;p  Quite a good place for western food and they have some local food there too like coconut milk rice . Delicious is located in Mid Valley Mall - a place where it is easy for all of us to meet up.  All in one - hotel, shopping and delicious food can be found here :)

Savory Fish Paste And Mince Meat Patties

I wish I have someone to do the menu planning for me and I just do the cooking :p  The data upstairs got muddled up and I ended up cooking something I thought would be a disaster but surprisingly it turned out delicious - some fish paste , prawn paste and some mince meat combine together and stir them vigorously  into a sticky paste , add in some hot chillies ,lots of garlic and white pepper for flavor and some corn flour for crispness. I can be like a zombie after a hard day at work and I can be blur as to what or how much ingredients I have I have to add it to the meat mixture...darn stressful when you are one of the few working ones and the rest are just taking their pay and not much output from them. " hey ! you will be fired if you are in the private sector " please excuse this outburst :p  I have been feeling the work pressure lately.....I want to retire and enjoy life before I expire !  God when will it be ???

Back to the topic, this meat patties are delicious...I used grapeseed oil for frying these patties ... cholesterol free and good for the body.  Grapeseed oil is good for deep frying by the way  :)

Steamed Grouper With Sizzled Light Soy Sauce Oil

I love whole fish rather than fish fillets to be frank with you.  The meat is somehow smoother and sweeter :) you can say it is psychological or a set mentality :p  We, Chinese prefers having the whole complete fish...as the saying goes  "  got head got tail - it refers to doing things having a start and an end  :) - something like that...eeew I am yellow banana so I guess it is roughly something like that LOL!  Chinese has lots of beliefs...and must not turn over the fish to eat the other side for fear the boat will overturn if you are sailing ( for business people it means your business will fail if you turn over the fish to the other side)  So you try to figure out how you are going to eat the other side without turning it over....yea...that's it.....you just have to.....

Sarawak Laksa

First, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the Daddies out there a Happy Father's Day...especially to my WB and my friend Arthur from Sarawak :)

Sarawak Laksa...mmmmm just the thought of it makes me salivate again. Arthur of  Still Crazy After All These Years  gifted me a packet of sambal laksa from Sarawak when he came to Penang to meet up his blogger friends last December. He is such a great person...knowing I love to cook, he flew over bringing this packet of sambal all the way from Sibu , Sarawak.  How thoughtful of him :) Thanks Arthur for this delicious sambal paste.  I have been wanting to cook this but due to so many church activities and hectic weekends, I was not able to cook this Sarawak Laksa till yesterday morning :)

Simple Roast Chicken - Pot Bless

We had a pot bless/potluck dinner at the church last Saturday night.  To celebrate Parents' Day and every members will contribute and bring something for the dinner. As usual, I will cracking my head ...cook this or cook that dish...something different maybe....well...when the day came, I just chicken out of the ' mouth watering dish ' I was going to cook and instead  roasted the 3 halfs of chicken  hahaha :p   Simple roast may look simple in taste but if you know how to marinate them ...they will turn out great in flavor and be tasty too ! I love doing the sprinkling of different spices onto the chicken ...knowing it will be great at the end :)

Wholemeal Chapatti

Weekend meals can be either simple or elaborate type . Flipping through my stack and stack of cookbooks, I settled for this simple flatbread called the Chapatti from my 500 Pizzas & Flatbread. There are many variations but I chose this simple and healthy one- Wholemeal Chapatti.  It is indeed simple and very healthy.  Wholemeal flour and olive oil makes it healthier than those chapatti that uses ghee.  I cooked some chicken curry to go with it.  WB is a meat eater so I forgo the thought of cooking dhal curry for it.  But the next time I make this Chapatti,  I will cook the dhal curry to complete it being a healthy meal :p

Homemade Gyoza / Dumpling

I have a sudden craving for gyoza/ dumplings , after I saw Kathy of Small Kucing having some homemade ones.  And hers look so great that the craving became even stronger , and I told myself I must make some for our dinner on of these night . I saw this gyoza pastry sold at Tesco and bought some home. I wanted to try out and see how crispy can the dumpling be with a thicker skin instead of the wanton skin which is thin. And it was good ! Best taken straight after it cooled down .  It will be crispy for a short while so it is better to prepare it when you are ready to serve.

Stir Fry Tofu With Leeks And Snow White Mushroom

I really do not know what to name this dish :)  I put together all my favorite veggies and tofu and give it a quick stir fry and gosh it was tasty and  I get to savor all my favorites at one go....haha I am not called a glutton for nothing :p  This is a simple dish that everyone will love except my WB :p  he is a meat eater but I do want to wean him off meat and to eat more veggies and simple dishes that is good for health and thank God , he is slowly adapting to be a vegetarian :p

Stir Fry Chicken Fillets With Yellow Pepper

What do you do when you have so much of chicken fillets left in the freezer...meant for making burgers for Piggy Joshua and he can't finish all of them ??? I took some to stir fry with red onions rings and yellow pepper. A simple dish that doesn't need much work unlike the burgers where I have to mince them and add the spices and bread crumbs and then shaped them into rounds and freeze them before grilling them.   I prefer fish anytime but these fillets can't keep too long in the freezer .  This dish is good especially when you are rushing for time or too tired to cook anything elaborate :)
